| Last
years Hurricane GNCC race was a mud bath with heavy
rains pouring the week prior - this year was all
to the same except for the rain. The Hurricane GNCC
course is built in a swamp and we are pretty sure
that the worse drought or lack of rain could not
keep the black swamp muck from overtaking the course
every year - jst like it did this year. This is
one of those races were it is all about the survival
of the fittest.
Off the start
Traci Cecco battles side by side the Honda of Troy's
Stephanie Parton & Baldwin Motorsports Angel
Atwell thru the first set of turns with Traci winning
the battle to take the lead early. By the 3 mile
marker Cecco pulling off well over a ten second
lead crashes hard on a kicker bump and loses the
lead as Parton and Atwell pass. At the end of the
first lap Cecco passes Atwell and pulls into the
pits for a twisted steering stem which required
her to have the bars turned for the quad to go straight.
"I
had one of those days",
"After crashing out in the first lap and losing
1st I was trying even hard to come back and eventually
crashed much harder on the 3rd lap"
At the start of
the 3rd lap Traci holds onto 2nd place with Atwell
dropping out with battery trouble and the rest of
the 12 Women's class field dropping out or falling
back. Within 1 mile of the start of the 3rd lap
Traci's charge to the front was stopped after she
swapped and crashed hard on a whooped out portion
of the track with her YFZ450 pounding her into the
ground. After getting the quad off of her Traci
continued the final 2 laps to place 2nd for the
day.
"My helmet, goggles,
and chest protector saved me today on that 2nd crash
- I faired out much better than they did" "My
Alba YFZ was running great - I got stuck a few times
but never once did it even cough in all the deep
water and mud crossings"
While cleaning
up after the race Traci noticed her forearm was
misformed and needed to be checked at the local
Hospital. Early reports came back negative but further
examinations have coinfirmed Traci fractured her
right forearm (ulna) during the race. Heal time
is set to be 3 to 4 weeks with a splint.
