Last years John
Penton race was one of the muddiest races in GNCC
series - This year was a 180 degree turn from last
year as the Southern Ohio weather could not of been
any more humid & hot with the heat index in
the upward 90's. Traci was coming into the 10th
round of the series after a heartbreaking loss at
the Wisp GNCC 2-weeks prior when her kill cord disconnected
causing her quad to shut down only miles from the
finish line after leading the entire 4 lap race.
With the absence of luck on her side in 2004 Traci
was left having to make up lost time & opportunity
while nursing a fractured arm for 4 rounds after
a horrific crash in Round 2 GNCC in Florida putting
Traci in the position to win the last 4 races or
loose the Championship....
"I was really excited about
the John Penton race today - I really like this
track"
Off the start Cecco rockets
to the first turn and thru the second as Honda of
Troy's Stephanie Parton and Baldwin Motorsports
Angel Atwell tangle for a brief period with the
rest of the Women's class trailing behind. By the
end of the first lap Parton passes Cecco only seconds
off the start after Cecco gets rear ended and flips
off the track by and out of control rider heading
into turn 6 entrance into the woods.
I though I had
it made after taking the holeshot and looking back
at the 3rd turn and seeing Stephanie tied up with
another rider - 5 seconds later I was on my head when
another rider just barreled into me causing me to
flip the quad. Traci
would remount from dead last to battle her way to
3rd place at the end of the first lap behind Atwell
but would not be able to catch Parton on the fast
paced course after loosing valuable time while battling
with Atwell on the second lap. Cecco would eventually
pass Atwell towards the end of the 2nd lap and hold
her position to the finish with Brenda Kress taking
3rd to round out the top 3.
"I gave it my
all trying to pass thru the pack and get around
Angel in the woods but her machine was extremely
fast in the fields and I could not pass which left
Stephanie to basically walk away on the 1st &
2nd laps" "It almost feels like and end
of the year already since I have no chance at the
championship but I am confident that I will get
2nd in points in the most challenging season of
racing I have ever experienced"
