ITP Quadcross Round 12 - Glen Helen
2
CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW FOR SCHELL!
Jeremy Schell wins
the 2004 ITP Quadcross Championship
Going
into this, the last race of the 12 round ITP Quadcross season,
Jeremy Schell had a couple of goals. He wanted to get out
front and lead for a bit, he wanted to get more experience
racing with the locals and his buddies, Kory Ellis and Darrel
Patton, and, of course, he wanted to win a championship.
THINGS
HAPPEN FOR A REASON...
That
is what Team Alba's Jeremy Schell said, after his championship
win at Glen Helen, when asked about his mid season move
to Team Alba Racing. At first, when moving to Team Alba,
Schell had some serious apprehension. It was mid season,
he was defending a championship title and was starting
with a new team and a new ride - his YFZ450. He didn't
really know what to expect from Alba, the level of support
and his new YFZ 450. As he was holding the championship
trophy on the podium, it looked as if he made the right
decision and things did indeed happen for a reason! |
When the weather report for the weakened
said that it was going to be raining, Both Shell and Ellis
were concerned that the notorious Glen Helen track was going
to be a mud bog. Instead, it turned out to be exactly what
was needed to smooth out what Schell called, "the roughest
track in America."
It seems that a bit of rain and some
expert grooming by the folks at Glen Helen created a track
that was fast and not too rough. The water also kept down
the dust and made for a perfect race.
Moto
1
Jeremy Schell got a great start on his Black #14 Team Alba
Racing YFZ - second off the line behind Keith Little and into
the fast, sweeping Taladaga turn. His teammate and roommate
Team Alba's #53 Kory Ellis was close behind. Little pulled
away for a good lead while Ellis and Shell battled for second.
Jeremy
said in his So Cal Hick accent,
"On the track I tried not to think about the championship
or the win. I really just focus on the race, the next corner
and how to get around the next rider. It's easy to get your
head all clouded up with all that other stuff and ruin your
race."
Kory Ellis eventually found his way around
Jeremy Schell but by that time, Little was too far ahead.
Moto 1 finished Little, Ellis, Schell. Darrel Patton who started
the race 11 points behind Jeremy for the championship finished
10th.

Moto

Dustin Nelson got the hole-shot on the
start of moto 2. Jeremy Schell was right behind, chasing him
down, finally passing him before they made a complete lap.
Schell was in the lead and wasn't looking back. Ellis and
Little were close behind battling for 3rd.
While the battle was going on behind
him, Schell pulled away from the pack increasing his lead.
Schell lead for three laps while Ellis was methodically pushing
his way to the front. After he won the battle with Little,
he worked on Nelson then hunted down Schell.
On the fourth of eight laps, Ellis overtook
Schell for the lead and took off! There was going to be no
catching Kory Ellis at Glen Helen today!
By the end of the race, both Nelson and
Little had worked their way past Jeremy Schell - who, by this
time, had accomplished all of his goals. His 4th place finish
gave him a 3rd overall - which was enough for his second ITP
Quadcross Pro ATV Championship in a row!
Kory Ellis finished 1st overall for round
12 and managed a respectable 4th Place in the Championship
- despite missing 4 races to compete in the GNC National Pro
Quad MX series. In fact Ellis Finished 1st in 6 of the 12
races. That's impressive. Together with his Alba team mate
Jeremy Schell, Team Alba Racing won 8 of the 12 Pro Quad ATV
races.
Next year, Jeremy Schell is going to
move up to the big league with Kory Ellis to compete in the
GNC Pro Quad Championship. He looks forward to continuing
with Team Alba and to competing on the national level.
Everyone at Alba Congratulates Jeremy
Schell for a great season and a fantastic win in the ITP Quadcross
series.
