GNCC Round 1
The Lone Star - Gilmer, TX
Texas
is about doing everything big - and that's exactly how Team
Alba Racing opened up the 2005 GNCC Season. With wins for
both Traci Cecco in the Women's division and Chris Borich
in the Men's Pro Division, things for Team Alba were big indeed!
Race Report: Rick Cecco

2004 Marked the first year of the
Lonestar GNCC which took many by surprise with it's extremely
brutal climate of cold weather, rocks, rain ruts and red clayish
ground. Basically, if NASA needed a place to train for an
expedition of Mars - this is the place to be! 2005's track
- same place, same conditions, BUT the weather turned for
the better with 55 - 60 degree temperatures all weekend with
a slight mist of rain every now and then that kept the dust
down a bit - perfect racing conditions.
Off the start Baldwin Motorsports Angel Atwell pulled the
hole shot. Alba Action Sports' Traci Cecco had the throttle
pinned side-by-side with Team Suzuki's Stephanie Parton around
the first turn, powering past her the final seconds before
entering the woods taking over 2nd place. By mile marker 2
on the first lap Cecco overcame Atwell on a split in the course
and never looked back. Traci lead the remainder of the 5 lap
- 2 hour 30 minute race to the checkered flag and the top
of the podium.

After the race Traci mentions:
I had a good start
- basically right were I wanted to be in 2nd or 3rd and stay
steady with the leaders early on. Angel and I were cruising
along pretty well when we came to a split in the trail - she
took one lane and I took the other - I ended up getting the
better line and passed. The track was brutal and had so many
holes and ruts that would sneak up on you so I rode smart
and went about my pace and before I knew it I was all alone
with Angel, Stephanie and the rest of the class dropping back.
On the second lap I clipped a rock that stopped me dead -
putting me over the bars and hitting my head pretty hard on
my front bumper. The next 3 laps were full of bottlenecks
in the tight woods, hill climbs and downhill's that I faired
out well enough to pass by without any major troubles. On
a rough course like this you had to have a solid machine with
great suspension and my Alba Action Sports YFZ450 had it all.

something right, they both won GNCC Round 1! |
