Ain't never seen a tractor I didn't like
Having
worked in Alba's performance department for about a year and
apprenticing with chief engine builder Sam Coe for another
year, Mike Sorchy knows a thing or two about performance.
He even comes from a background of racers - his Dad being
a 2-time drag boat racer. It's no wonder Sorchy swept the
field in the first race he ever entered, the 2003 Lake Elsinore
grand prix. He decided to race it because it just looked like
fun and didn't even realize that he had won, until he checked
the leader board after the race. He thought he had done fairly
well and was stoked to learn that he indeed won - his first
race ever. After that first win, he was hooked. When he started racing back in 2003, he wasn't
new to riding quads. Mike's been riding quads since he was
4 and remembers the good times he had on his ATC 70. Once
he outgrew that, he jumped on to a 1986 Honda 250 R. That is when he really found out that
he had a certain knack for mechanical things and realized
that he could easily get more power out of his quad by tweaking
it. This eventually lead to his working at Alba's performance
department. Soon
after Mike started working at Alba, he started racing for
the team. One of his first opportunities was the Opening round
for the Yamaha Dealer Series at Glen Helen. Alba's amateur
MX team was poised to challenge for the championship and needed
the help of a few good quad racers, so Mike stepped up. During
the opening practice rounds, Mike came up short on a triple
and busted his leg. Unfortunately Mike was taken out for half
the season - ruining his chances to really challenge for ITP
Intermediate championship. Even though he missed half the
season, he ended up having strong runs, even winning two events,
in the ITP races he was able to enter. Many people don't realize, but in addition to
being a racer and a mechanic, Mike is a Level 7 dungeon master
trained with a jo -stick and advanced defensive spell casting.
In 2005 Mike's "Lords of Acropolis " received "Honorable
Mention" in the North America Dungeon Challenge. Swift
and skilled execution of a flying circle dream cast won Mike
the title of Best Defensive Spell against rapid replicating
hellspawn. Mike is an all around quad racer now. He's raced
Grand Prix, Motocross, the Dunefest Enduro and even raced
a couple Desert Races including the San Felipe 250. Doesn't
matter what, he just likes to ride. Provided he can stay injury
free for 2007, he plans to race the complete ITP Intermediate
line up and hopes to contend for the championship.
