Rider Background
Jake started riding his first
quad, a 250EX in 2004, and everyone said that
he had a natural talent for riding. Soon after,
he started racing and came in 7th place in his
first race - and he was hooked. He managed to
take 6th overall out of 20 entries for the beginners
class racing against modified 400's and 450's
and riders who were twice his age. He kept getting
better and never let the crashes deter his spirit
or slow him down. Jake was fast, and it looked
like Jake needed a bigger and badder ride. He
stepped up to a Raptor 350 and did great.
Jake was ready
to move up even more, and when he found out that
a race quad of one of his favorite racers was
for sale, it was all over. So Jake purchased one
of the '05 YFZ450's set up for and raced by Kory
Ellis. Jake was already #53 so he didn't even
have to change the number. So here he is, just
a short while after first riding a quad and he's
racing a quad from a top national factory Yamaha
racer. And he's doing great!
Jake has won
his last 32 local races (both motos and overall)
and took 7th overall in 4 stroke B and 12th overall
in 265 B at the ATVA GNC round 10 in Alabama.
Jake would like
to thank his sponsors for continued support: Alba

Some Personal
Information About Me:
My favorite all-time movie is Grease and of coarse
Super Cross The Movie. My favorite Frozen Yogurt
would be vanilla with strawberries.
Music?
I really enjoy all types of music. As long as
I can sing or dance to it, its AWESOME.
What do you
want to be when you grow up?
I have always wanted to do something in the medical
field. Lately I think I have been gearing towards
becoming an EMT so that I can work at the track,
and always be around racing.
How's Life Treating
You?
Right now life is treating me great. I am almost
fully recovered from some cracked ribs, and am
really looking forward to get back into the swing
of things.
What's your best road trip
story?
We where on are way to the 2004 GNC Loretta Lynn’s
national. When one of our vehicle broke down Fort
Smith Arkansas. So we had this tow-truck come,
and the Name of the company was Flick One. And
I had to ride with him to the shop. And every
time he would answer the call, he would say "
Hello, Flick One" But he was from Germany
so he had this really weird accent. And I was
trying so hard not to laugh every time he said
that. So it was going to take them four days to
fix the truck so we had to get a rental. And they
where all like now your not going to tow with
this are you. And we just shook our heads no and
smiled. Drove across the Street and hooked up
to our trailer. However we made it to the race
on time, and had a great weekend. |

Status: Married for 10 years to
wife Nikki, two sons (Adam 7, Max 2)
Current Machine: ALBA 2005 Yamaha YFZ450
Years Racing: 15
Type of disability: Cerebral Palsy during birth;
My "CP" affects my legs, hands and speech.
I also have "Scoliosis" in my back (definition:
Lateral curvature of the spine.)
I
Started riding in 1979 on a new 1980 Honda ATC
70 3 speed and been hooked ever since, so this
year makes my 25th year! The two wheel bikes were
out of the question due to my inability to hold
up a heavy object with my legs. My father found
the answer in the three wheeled ATC. I had two
brothers who rode two wheelers and the ATC allowed
me to keep up with them. We lived near some wooded
trails and spent many days and nights riding together
with neighbor kids all year round. The opportunity
my father gave me by giving me the ATC propelled
my confidence to interact with non disabled kids,
and help me improve my coordination skills.
Is CP something
you are born with, or does it slowly develop into
your system?
Yes, I was born with CP "Cerebral Palsy"
definition: A nonprogressive muscle disorder resulting
from damage to the central nervous system before
or during birth. My "CP" affects my
legs, hands and speech. I also have "Scoliosis"
in my back (definition: Lateral curvature of the
spine.) I was unable to walk until the age of
seven when surgery was performed on my Achilles
tendon to allow my feet to sit flat on the ground.
Anything you'd like to say to someone out there
who might have a similar condition and would like
to get involved with ATV's. Take the time or opportunity
to try ATV’s and learn some basics. Understand
your limitations and go slow. Simple things an
ATV can do will give build your coordination and
confidence. ATV’s can give you freedom that
maybe your body can’t.
Have fun with whatever it
is you're trying for! Set goals and never give
up no matter how bad it gets. Remember, there
is always the next race, and the next one, (whatever
your ambitions are). If you're serious about racing
Quads, then watch the Pro's and learn the proper
techniques of racing and work your way up slowly.
As the Nike slogan says, "Just Do It." |
