Wayne has been riding quads forever.
Being the son of Cliff Matlock, multi-time Baja 1000 winner,
Wayne spends most of his available time desert riding. One
of his favorite rides of the year is the annual dad's birthday
run to Mike's Sky Ranch in Baja.
When he's not riding, he's working
with his father on the company's cabinet company - making
custom cabinets for the people of San Diego.
In 2004, Wayne made a trip back
East to compete in a GNCC race. With the help of
Team
Alba Race Partners Rick and Traci Cecco, Wayne tried to figure
out if there really was much difference riding fast in the
desert or the woods. He quickly learned that it was whole
different kind of riding. Watching the GNCC pros shoot through
trees barely wide enough for a quad, Wayne pretty much thought
they were all crazy. However, when the woods cleared and there
was open terrain ahead, Wayne did what he does best, he pulled
on the throttle, leaned back and took off - passing a number
of the dumbfounded racers. Seems that they were much faster
in the tight obstacle-filled woods, but he was quicker in
the open area.
As a desert racer, Wayne is used
to going flat out across hundreds of miles of the most inhospitable
terrain North America has to offer - dealing with the obstacles
and varied, unpredictable terrain as it comes. It's just a
different kind of riding.
