AMERICAN HONDA PRO ATV TEAM WIN
TECATE SCORE SAN FELIPE 250

On March 14, 2009 the #1A American Honda team of Wayne Matlock, Harold Goodman and Josh Caster won the Tecate Score San Felipe 250 Overall ATV title.

The #1A Honda team headed to the race determined to take the win and continue their winning streak from last year’s dominating performance at this year’s San Felipe 250. The team would be riding the Honda TRX700XX for the first year in San Felipe. The race would run the same course as last year but each teammate spent time running their section of the course multiple times. The course included everything from sand washes and rocky canyons to large whooped out sections as it made it’s way around Baja.

Matlock, who started was third quad off the line and would ride to race mile 25. Fighting dust and swarming crowds, Matlock rode his first section through the famous Zoo Road Crossing at a fast steady pace holding his position.

Goodman took the quad from Matlock at race mile 25 and continued around his section of the course into the big sandy whoops of Borrego and down Diablo Dry Lake. Along the way Goodman was able to take the lead before handing the quad off to Caster at race mile 93.

Caster was able to jump on the quad in the lead by 3 minutes thanks to Goodman and continued the fast pace set by his other teammates. Caster’s section included the famous desolate and rocky Matomi Wash before handing the quad back to Matlock at race mile 170. Before handing the quad off to Matlock, Caster was able to gain another 6 minutes to the lead.

Matlock would continue on the quad from race mile 170 to the finish. Matlock’s last section of the race course included the rock filled whoops of the Azufre and Huatamote Washes before heading back towards San Felipe. Matlock continued the fast pace the team set early in the race and would gain another 6 and ½ minutes before crossing the finish line.

The team’s time of 5:16:36 (44.04 mph) was 15 and ½ minutes faster than the 2nd Place Pro ATV team of Felipe Velez, a local team of San Felipe aboard a Honda TRX450R. Team Honda’s time was good enough to take the win in the Pro ATV class as well as the Overall ATV win.

Josh Row '08 WORCS Pro-Am champion
It All Came Down To The Last RACE

2008 WORCS Championship Trophy - Josh RowGood racing is all about competition, and this year there was fantastic competition in the Pro-AmDivision of the WORCS series. Last years 2nd place finisher Dylan Zimmerman was robbed of his championship due to mechanical issues - he was hungry and would stop at nothing to win. Josh Row, son of Baja 1000 champion Greg Row, was out to prove himself as a top-shelf racer on his Alba TRX450R. Together they battled throughout the season and it all came down to the last race in TAFT. Josh Row went into the last race just 2 points ahead of Zimmerman, so he had to finish in front of him or sacrifice the '08 Pro-Am title. They battled hard and exchanged positions but Row did what he needed to do, and went home with the trophy.

Great Job Josh !

Matlock Injured at Vegas to Reno
Co Rider Harold Goodman Iron Mans 420 Miles for 3rd Place Pro Quad

ATV Crash6 miles into one of the longest, and most grueling races on American Soil, the BITD Vegas to Reno, Pro Quad Team Alba/Factory Honda racer Wayne Matlock crashed hard while trying to avoid a stalled rider in the middle of the course. Wayne was hurt pretty bad, but decided it was best to try and make it to the next pit, he had a championship title on the line and it could take a long time for rescue vehicles to reach him in his fairly remote location. He toughed it out for 30 miles to the next pit, handed off to co rider Harold Goodman and was promptly taken to the nearest hospital. He was found to be busted up pretty good and was transferred via Life Flight to Reno where he was glued back together.

Goodman, who only recently joined Matlock in desert racing, decided he would run the remaining 420 miles solo, they had a championship to defend after all. So that's exactly what he did. Goodman was in the saddle at race speeds for 10.5 hours straight on a course that was new to him in his first year competing in desert racing. Not only did he finish, he finished in 3rd place for pro quads, holding on to their lead in the championship. This was the longest distance he had ever ridden in one day.

Matlock has returned home after surgery and is recovering well. He will not be able to make the next race in September but hopes to be good to go by the Golden West Cycle 150 in Jean, NV in October. Goodman will be stepping up and soloing September's race to keep he and Wayne in the chase for the series championship.

Factory Honda/Alba Team Wins San Filipe 250

Wayne Matlock and Harold Goodman win Baja 500Wayne Matlock, Harold Goodman and Marc Spaeth after San Filipe 250

In the first race that long-time riding partners, Wayne Matlock and Chad Prull were racing against each other, Matlock and his new riding mates Harold Goodman of GNC Series renown and Marc Spaeth were on a mission. For most of the race, the two teams were within striking distance of each other. Prull, now racing for Team Alba Rival Temecula Motorsports, left the final pit ahead of Wayne, and Wayne was on a mission. Wayne caught up with Chad a few miles out of the pit and by the finish had amassed over a 7 minute lead. Wayne said early on that last season he wanted to sweep the SCORE Baja series, and so far, he's off to a good start.

Alba Wraps Up the Season On Top

Team Alba RacingITP Quadcross Season Finale
Glen Helen, CA
December 2, 2007

The consolidated team effort for Alba racing really payed off this year. With a Championship for Steve Beilman, Mark Rhodes and Jeff Cale, and a Second Place season for Mike Sorchy and Clark Evernham, it's hard to deny the synergistic effect of the cooperative race effort. Hats off to long-time Alba Pro Rider, Kory Ellis - who took the ITP Pro Title (even though he no longer races for Team Alba). Danny Ragan, new to Team Alba Racing this year was on top of the Open Pro category for much of the season but was narrowly edged out by Darrell Patton in the end.

Beilman, Rhodes and Cale pretty much dominated their respective fields throughout the season. Evernham would have taken the championship in his class, but was unable to attend one of the races, taking a serious hit on points. Sorchy had a strong battle right up to the end - and went into the last moto of the season in the points lead. A spectacular late race wipe-out right in front of the Glen Helen grandstand was enough to bump him from the top of the podium for the season.

team alba racingSpecial thanks goes out to Ryan Neufeld, whose valuable support and ongoing assistance throughout the season help to make sure that every Team Alba ATV was in prime shape and that ever rider was on top of their game. Steve Beilman also went above and beyond the call of duty and was pretty much the catalyst holding the team together, providing support to all of the team sponsors and comforting the younger riders when they got homesick on the long away races.

Perhaps, the most important race of the entire day was held in the pits - the Traxxas RC car competition. [see video] All of the top racers gathered with their Top RC cars on a hand crafted track that had all the challenges of a Supercross with the speed of a super speedway. But don't think this was some kids game. These professional racers were serious - and three was some serious green on the line! After intense competition and some of the most wicked wrecks and costly damage, Dustin Nelson proved that he was top dog, taking home the cash and, most importantly, bragging rights.
