JD
Comes from a family of desert racers. Growing up around
Class 8 Desert Trucks and Short Track Off Road Trucks,
JD has learned a thing or two about what it takes
to survive and win off-road.
Soon after getting his first Rhino,
he tore it down to the frame with an eye toward performance.
His custom build has lowered the stock seats almost
12" - dropping the center of gravity significantly
and widening the frame. The handling was fantastic,
but he needed more power and more top end speed. |
JD's
Custom Rhino Mods
I crafted a custom one of
a kind long travel with fully boxed spindles.
I changed the pivot angles and moved the steering
location to achieve no bump steer and minimal
tire scrub with the race legal 14" of travel.
Basically I can
drive it with one hand in four wheel drive through
just about anything and the
steering wheel wont rip my fingers off. Also,
I've lowered and centered the battery, moved
the radiator, mounted a fuel cell to about an
inch over the rear differential (nobody else
has done this), custom sway bar, 300m axles,
added an oil accumulator, parker pumper, buggy
steering rack, billet aluminum tierods, four
hella HID lights, In the rear I have built custom
boxed shock mounts allowing me to use a longer
shock than any other rhino to eliminate fading
of the shocks over a long period of time. Also
I have autometer gauges, Momo steering wheel,
and PCI race radio with intercom. |

JD was really in a class all by himself
at the Terrible's Town 250 - finishing 2 hours ahead
of second place. His comments after the race were
that he wished his rhino was faster. Everything else
on his Rhino was race ready, but if he wanted to really
go, he needed a new motor. He turned to Alba Racing
Engines for that performance edge and soon after,
was a new member of our race team. Because of his
extensive redesign, Alba had to custom
build a pipe to fit around the frame.
At his first race with an Alba Racing
Engine kit, JD applied that new power to become fastest
qualifier. Unfortunately, a crash during a heat race,
while trying to triple a set of jumps, knocked him
out of competition. |
