H-Bomb
Films used to be best known for their extreme quad "Huevos
Grande" video series. That was then. From now on,
H-Bomb will be known as the people behind the sickest
quad event this season - the Huevos
Dirt Riot.
It's
difficult to really define the dirt riot - it was actually
made up of several different components. But one thing
was for sure, it was all good.
The
racing events featured a lot of great action out on the
quadcross/freestyle track that was completed just hours
before the event by the hard working H-Bomb crew. One
look at the track and it was obvious that this was no
ordinary

quad
racing event. Featuring a series of very large jumps that
seemed too far apart and a couple of narrow freestlye
jumps, this track was a perfect setting for some serious
action.
Rumor
has it that several of the quadcrossers who were here
to battle it out for the $10,000 purse, had talked about
going home because the track was too extreme. But after
watching the freestylers launch off of the ramps and easily
soar over the doubles, the racers gave it a shot and were
quickly carving off seconds from their lap times.

Kory
Ellis catches some serious air across the start-finish
line during the first qualifier.
|
In
the first preliminary moto, Team Alba's Kory Ellis was
first into turn one and never looked back, winning with
a healthy lead over second place. He said the track was
very narrow and that it was going to be difficult to pass,
but that the big jumps were a lot of fun.
After
the second qualifier, the H-Bomb crew made a few modifications
to the track to make for even better racing action.
In
what turned out to be one of the most exciting races of
the year, the main event was filled with action. Team
Alba's Ellis was in 2nd coming out of turn one, but quickly
battled his way up to the lead and began to pull away.
A
nasty crash on the main jump landing sent a quad cartwheeling
down the track and slowed the action for a bit, but aside
from a bruised ego, everyone came out ok.
The
back double-jump, came down into a quick 90-degree left
turn, so the riders had to land, jam the brakes and carve
into the turn to set up for the whoop section. On one
lap, Ellis came down and found a rock was jammed between
the brake and the frame - making it difficult to slow
down. That was the corner that, while leading, he came
around and clipped a barrel with his rear tire to the
collective gasp of the crowd.
Two
laps later, came the turning point in the race, Ellis
stalled, giving 2nd and 3rd place rides an opportunity
to catch up and pass before he got fired again. On a track
that was noted as almost impossible to pass, Ellis quickly
caught and passed the 3rd place rider, but didn't have
enough to regain the lead. It was a very exciting race
for everyone and really made the crowd go wild.
The
event that really had the crowd going wild was the quad
freestyle competition. H-Bomb had strategically
located 3 mega jumps that they said they got from the
X games around the center landing mound. The mound topped
out at about 15' and made for some great action. Even
the freestyler's practice session drew the crowds.
The
event was broken down into a qualifier events and was
scored on a point system from judges stragically located
on the roof of a bulldozer in the center of the track.
Each rider had 60 seconds to get their groove on and show
the crowd what they could do. There was a lot of serious
air and you really have to see it yourself to get the
feeling for how high they were launching from those nearly
vert launch ramps.
There
was even time to get up close and personal with a few
of the best quad racers in the country.

got a chance to meet some of the best quad racers
in the country. From left to right Traci Cecco,

Alba Racers Traci Cecco, Kory Ellis and Steve Beilman
hung out for a while at the Alba booth to chat with the
fans and sign autographs. They drew quite a crowd as did
Steve and Kory's race YFZ450.
The
autograph session turned out to be perfect timeing, being
that it happened right after Kory won the first qualifier
- so fans were excited.
And
it's not often that you get a chance to meet the top woman
quad racer in the country - especially when she lives
in Pennsylvania! But Tracy flew out to be a part of this
event with Team Alba just a few weeks after she clinched
the 2003 GNCC Woman's Championship!

There
was a lot more action off the track. Alba extreme
alcohol drag racer Mark Rhodes and his extreme
drag Banshee pose with a few of the Team Alba
Girls.

Team
Alba's Mark Rhodes proves that there was perhaps more
action in expo area than on the track. At least thats
what happens when you throw a hand full of Team Alba girls
into the mix.
The
expo area featured several clothing, quad performance
parts manufacturers, a couple of RVs and an alternative
rock radio station to keep the area hoppin' with good
music. Alba had a bunch of ATV parts and accessories on
display and 17 performance quads on display including
Mark Rhodes totally custom Alba Banshee.
The
crowd was impressive when the doors finally opened at
noon and as the day wore on, more and more people wandered
through the expo - and made for a good sized crowd for
the main quadcross event.
